A few words about us
Let’s introduce ourselves
More than a hundred years ago, Dr. Krastyo Krastev talked here together with the great Pencho Slaveykov, Peyo Yavorov, Petko Todorov and Todor Vlaikov. The authentic, warm and welcoming atmosphere in Magernitsa creates the feeling that you are in the writer’s home.
Today, the restaurant is still a popular place where guests come to soak up this atmosphere and be inspired by the legacy of the great professor.
Created with passion and dedication more than 20 years ago, Manastirska Magernitsa is an establishment that has remained relevant and highly valued in the ever-changing culinary landscape.
Historic house and age-old recipes
In order for you to feel the magic of the real experience, we preserved the idea, enriched the authentic taste of the most Bulgarian feasts and refreshed a house that is more than a century old.
We value and celebrate our traditions, which have remained impervious to time and hardship and it is our pride, honor and pleasure to serve, share and taste them together.
“Monastery Magernitsa” means the place in the monasteries where the monks cook and eat. We chose the name because each recipe on our menu is collected from various monasteries all over Bulgaria and each dish is special – handed down from monk to monk over the years.
In addition to culinary masterpieces prepared with love and fresh, seasonal products, with us you will get space and at the same time privacy, thanks to the wide selection of cozy rooms that Magernitsa has available.
We strive and succeed in satisfying even the most sophisticated culinary desires of our guests.
In our Magernitsa we offer only Bulgarian wines, a selected selection that represents the craftsmanship and skill of our winemakers, as well as the wealth of Bulgarian wine varieties.
Bulgarian cuisine and table manners are among our greatest assets, and hospitality has always been part of our identity.
According to an old Bulgarian tradition, we welcome each guest with a special Bulgarian pogacha, just as our predecessors did hundreds of years ago.
We are expecting you!
